After a prolonged period of confusion and name guessing, Raf Simons finally claims the throne at Dior, a privilege previously held by a string of extremely talented predecessors that include John Galliano and Yves Saint Laurent. I have great admiration for Simons who has proved his mettle time and again during his tenure at Jil Sander. Couture in itself is a herculean task; throw in a fashion house with a 100 years of heritage and the whole fashion world watching – Simons has a lot to shoulder. Here’s wishing him plenty of luck! At this point I only find it fitting to look back and celebrate the man who started the label himself, Christian Dior, a visionary who will forever be known for his feminine aesthetic and ethereal quality he brought about his clothes. Here are some of his classic looks frozen in time!
