When the Neon trend started, I was skeptical about how long it would last! In my head, it had all the elements of being a perfect fad; the most important being shock value.. and such things don’t last beyond a season right?..:) But how surprising, Neon has not only stuck around for awhile now but has peaked in terms of popularity and become every street style blog staple. A pair of neon kicks is how far I’ve gotten to wearing this trend, but the recent evolution of the color offers much promise in terms of wearability 🙂 Neon and neutrals are now officially a couple.. and boy do they look good together…. 😀
The time I’ve spent in NY was mostly as a student toting around art materials, unwieldy textbooks, my laptop and 10 other things.. I’ve always picked my beaten up back pack over a fashionable tote, or cross body messenger which inevitably gave me shoulder aches in a few minutes… My backpack certainly didn’t complement a dress or a skirt – Now me wearing converse most of the time is another story:P but it’s not something that terribly worried me.. But as some one wanting to make the transition from a student to a (hopefully) working professional( with an active social life might I add:P), I’ll have to ditch my backpack for something more attire friendly, probably be able to fit things in and transition from day to evening. So in addition to my still-new tote and cross body bag, I have been feeling some love for the oversized clutch.:) They look like they can fit stuff, they come in very many colors, some soft, some hard-shelled and many of them have a shoulder strap sneakily hidden inside so you can use it as a pouchette as well as a bag…. Here’s what got me falling hard..
I love skirts … The fitted sheath, the flattering A line, the mini pleated style, the high low version( I’d probably give the mini skirt a miss)……and now I have found yet another skirt to obsess over – The MIDI/ TEA length skirt( thanks in part to mad men i am guessing). It is a little tricky to get it right, but you might want to give it a try seeing how many things it can do for you – A lady like demeanor, plenty of movement and obviously a great alternative for those not blessed with thin pins:) Here are a few things to keep in mind before buying yours.
1. Length is key – both your legs’ and the skirts’. Taller women can get away with pretty much any length, but shorter ones( like me) should make sure the skirt hits just below the knee and not lower. 2. Create a focal point: Emphasis your natural waistline and create some curves by using a belt. If that isn’t your strong point, use a piece of statement jewelry – a chunky necklace to move the eye in a different direction.3. Stay Well – heeled: I dont wear heels unless I have to and give them a miss everytime I can. 🙂 But as some one who’s only 5’4″ the midi skirt warrants some added height, pair your skirt with a pair of comfortbale wedges or pumps. Remember ankle straps don’t do anything for this look.4. Play with the volume: Wearing midi skirts that are too voluminous can make you look squat especially when your body type isn’t a model’s. Doesn’t mean you need to skirt the issue 😛 simply choose a less voluminous variety/ fewer gathers/ pleats around the waistline. 5. Choose the tops wisely:Solid tops or mini prints are the best bet – with a little bit of drape or a simple knit tee. In case you want to go in for larger prints, make sure your skirt is a solid neutral. Light layers can also add interest to the look
The CFDA awards have been given out, several talented people have gotten their due and several others stand in line waiting for their turn. One of the awards of the night – The Lifetime achievement award was given to Tommy Hilfiger. As a former intern of the company and a designer with some experience in designing preppy gear, I take it upon myself to pay tribute to him through this post. Scroll down to OD on prep 🙂
Now that summer is here, sunnies are out full force… So for those of you’ll wanting to buy some sunglasses, here are some pointers on what is trending:)
1. Oversized & Round: Large shades are pretty much around for most part but now they get an update in fun colors – neons, pastels, ombre and much more 🙂 What’s more the frames are super round and flatter most face shapes(proof below). How perfect would these be on the beach or by the pool?2. Quirky: Now is the time to choose frames that are fun and quirky. Be it a 50’s inspired cat eye, or detailed baroque style, the more unique they are the better.. Perfect for those summer dresses B)Just be sure to pick something that suits your face shape.. and something that makes you smile 😀 I have my eyes on a pair of rayban clubmasters *drool*
