Those of you’ll who’ve been to/live in New York have probably eaten at or at least heard of Eataly. Owned in part by renowned chef Mario Batali, this 5000 sq foot expanse houses exquisite varieties of pasta, sauces, artisanal cheeses, chocolates and beer apart from signature italian dishes. But what I wanted to mention was a small corner of the restaurant- The Pasticceria or more familiarly their bakery section that features some of the best dessert I have ever tasted! The sweet treats come in mini size portions in variations like chocolate, caramel and fresh fruit (in adorable little plastic dishes) that are delicious, light and not cloyingly sweet(what’s more there are several sugar free versions too if calories bother you)! So next time you are around flatiron, head to Eataly, sink your teeth into one of their mini dolcis .. and while you are at it try their pistachio gelato too 😀 Bon Appetit!
What would we all do without serendipity(not the dessert place!but that too :P) Most of my best food finds haven’t been the ones I meticulously researched on yelp( some of them were gems no doubt) but rather the ones I walked into for no intelligent reason – Like this weekend when my boyfriend and I just strolled into a place simply because we liked the sound of it; this after having our fill of this most amazing ramen! (We probably wanted to extend our tryst with Japanese cuisine and were pushing our luck and thankfully it paid off :))! Off the bat we ordered the hotdog ice cream sandwich which looked super interesting and it also helped that we both have whole heartedly embraced and come to terms with our sweet tooth cravings. So, the item in question is a light semi – sweet fried bun(almost like a doughnut) stuffed with an ice cream of your choice – green tea/ sesame/ strawberry and vanilla. The first bite yielded a combo of warm bun and cold melting ice cream and each bite was delicious! We were raving about the dessert long after it disappeared down our throats and thus this post was born;). For the record, this might not catch the fancy of calorie counters but this is something you need to add to your “100 things before…” list. Get your fill at 30 St Marks PL (between Cooper Sq & Astor Pl) Manhattan, NY 10003 and report right back 🙂
It’s unbelievable;the things great weather and good food make you do (proof above) ! 😉 And good food for me most of the time (considering my saccharine tooth) = good dessert! Trust me, I say I’ve had my share of desserts; so when I recommend the Brooklyn Ice Cream factory it definitely isn’t a shot in the dark:) Be warned, the pier along which the place is located is so breath taking you might forget why you even got there in the first place. Obviously this works in your favor when you spend around 20 minutes standing in line to get your hands on the dreamy dessert. When you actually get to the counter, make sure you order two scoops(doesn’t matter if 1 scoop is how much you eat usually:P) because that’s how delicious it is! They have limited flavors – vanilla, chocolate chunk, peaches and cream, coffee and butter pecan, but do not be disappointed, the rich creamy texture more than makes up for it. Also isn’t too sweet(which is important when you eat as much of it as I do) and pairs well with the waffle cones. Now that spring is here for good, head out to 97 Commercial Street Brooklyn, NY 11222 with some company, grab these yum treats, sit down on one of the benches at the park and you’ll probably realize why the small things in life make it so worthwhile 🙂 oh and don’t forget your camera!
